🔧 Manitou 625 EV Retrofit
Converting diesel to electric — the smart way
🛠️ Project Overview:
We're currently retrofitting a Manitou 625 telehandler, originally equipped with another OEM's electric drive system. The system began to fault and had no information to repair it. The goal is to retrofit the unit with a newer more innovative EV drive system proprietary to Cambrian College. This conversion is part of our commitment to reducing emissions and bringing advanced battery-electric technology into high-demand job sites.
🎯 Project Goals:
- ✅ Match or exceed original diesel torque & hydraulic output
- ✅ Improve energy efficiency and reduce environmental impact
- ✅ Create a replicable EV conversion platform for mid-sized industrial equipment
- ✅ Provide real-world performance data to support future commercial rollouts
🔗 Why It Matters:
Retrofitting existing machinery is one of the fastest and most cost-effective ways to move toward zero-emission operations — especially in mining and construction sectors. This project serves as a working model for what’s possible when electrical knowledge meets mechanical engineering.

- 📐 Load calculations & motor sizing
- ⚡ Wiring, controls, BMS configuration, control software programming
- 🧰 Hands-on testing and performance tuning
- 🤝 Ongoing documentation to support future replication and support
